Alfresco

Alfresco is a replicated integrated content management system for organizations developed by a British company of the same name. It is used to manage documents, records, web publishing, group work in an organization. It comes in two editions. Alfresco Community is free, distributed under the terms of the LGPL.

Features

• It uses a virtual file system for storing content.
• The kernel of the system includes jBPM support for business process management.
• Starting with version 4.0, the proprietary Activiti BPM engine is used to manage business processes.
• Indexing and search are implemented based on Lucene tools (from version 4.0 onwards, indexing is performed using SOLR tools).
• It supports uploading and downloading any documents in .docx (Microsoft Office), .ods (OpenOffice), internal XML or PDF formats.
• The document management module implements the functionality of the version control system.
