BeautySearch

BeautySearch is a utility that can be used to change the appearance of the Windows 10 search window. Its interface is web-based, so you can customize it by embedding a JavaScript file with custom settings.

Simulated Transparency Effect

After the 20H1 Insider Builds update, the search interface lost its transparency effect. And although they kind of rolled out a fix in subsequent updates, the transparency never came back. This utility restores this effect in a slightly different way and with some limitations.

The display of accent colors.

By default you can enable accent colors in Start Menu, Notification Center and Taskbar. But not in search. BeautySearch corrects this injustice.

Search results in a dark theme

For some unknown reason, even when a dark theme is selected, search results are displayed on a white background. The utility allows you to switch the results window to dark mode (with or without transparency effect).

Removing the background from UWP application icons

Another questionable solution in Windows 10 is to display a monochrome background around UWP applications, which greatly spoils the system's appearance. The utility removes it as well. (It is worth noting that in later versions of the OS the background is removed by default).

Customizing the context menu

The standard context menu stands out from the general style of the rest of the system. BeautySearch suggests the following:

• Turns on shadows under the menu;
• Enables menu transparency;
• Changes the menu to match the Fluent Design system's guideline;
• Rounds corners;
• Aligns the width of menus.
