EarthDesk

EarthDesk is a program that replaces a static desktop picture with an interactive map of the Earth that displays day/night and the glow of major cities in real time.

The program can start automatically with Windows or when you log in to your account. And when you exit the program, it will immediately restore the background picture.

Thanks to the connection to the network, EarthDesk displays a real map of cloud coverage, allows users to track hurricanes and typhoons, or just admire the beauty of the native planet. In total, the program's database contains more than 10,000 cities.

On top of everything else, you can adjust the level of cloud cover transparency, contrast and information update interval. It also offers several map rendering modes to choose from. You can choose the type of image (Living Earth Satellite, Natural Color, Political and Shaded Relief) and the type of shading (Real Moonlight, Full Moonlight, Variable Moonlight, No Moonlight or Daylight only).

EarthDesk supports multi-monitor systems and consumes a small amount of system resources, running discreetly in the background.

All in all, it's an interesting program to replace the annoying static Windows desktop backgrounds.
