The eMail Verifier works on the same principle as the ISP email system. It retrieves email addresses from the Domain Name Server (DNS) and tries to connect to the SMTP server, simulating the sending of the message. No message is actually sent, the program drops the connection as soon as the server tells it whether or not the e-mail address in question exists.
