GNU LilyPond is a free sheet music editor designed to create musical scores by compiling a file from specially typeset text. The process of creating a score in LilyPond resembles programming: the output file is compiled according to the text, typed according to certain rules.
Unlike other music editors, LilyPond has no graphical interface and does not support WYSIWYG: the program itself determines the optimal location of score elements on the page (for example, the number of measures per line or distance between notes), although you can control it by specifying necessary parameters in the source file.
