Hard Disk Validator is an open-source utility that scans your hard disk for bad sectors and overwrites the data stored on them in order to restore them to working order. The utility remains easy to use and accessible to the general public.
Each sector of a hard drive stores a hash sum that is used to check the integrity of the data. If the hash does not match the data, the sector is marked as "broken" and becomes inaccessible.
Hard Disk Validator runs 4 different texts to detect and recover the broken sectors. It is extremely important to choose the right test so as not to lose data.
The first two tests are designed to scan the HDD for bad sectors. After checking and detecting such sectors, the program will try to overwrite the information in them and read them to check availability. The third test writes a test data pattern, checks if the writing was successful and recovers the original data. The fourth test performs the same function as the third test, but does not restore the original data at the end.
This program is inferior in functionality to more advanced tools, but it allows you to cope with not very serious problems with your hard disk drive.
