Instantbird is a program for instant text messaging over the Internet using most modern protocols and services.
Instantbird uses XULRunner and the libpurple library. libpurple is a library built and developed by the developers of the similar program Pidgin, allowing the use of the protocols and instant messaging services it supports. Besides Pidgin and Instantbird it is also used by Adium, meebo and other clients.
The use of the XULRunner engine will eventually allow Instantbird to be used in any applications that also use it (Firefox, Thunderbird, Sunbird, etc.).
