MicSwitch is an open-source utility that allows you to use a global (system-wide) key combination to turn the microphone on and off. It also monitors its status (enabled or disabled) and displays the corresponding indicator. It will help avoid awkward situations in voice chat games or messengers when someone forgets to turn the microphone off in time.
After installing the application on your computer, you just need to choose a convenient key combination to control the microphone. MicSwitch also adds a push-to-talk option. Enabling this option implies that the microphone will only work and "listen" to you as long as you hold down the key combination.
The key combination will work throughout the system, regardless of which window or program is currently active and open. The application itself is minimized to the system tray and does not interfere with your work. When you enable or disable the microphone, you will see a corresponding notification on the computer screen. It also displays a small widget on your desktop that shows the status of the microphone.
