There are many synonyms and colorful words in Russian, but in terms of richness and diversity of expressions, one of the first places among all languages of the world undoubtedly belongs to English.

Proverbs, sayings and expressions are very figurative, and their literal translation often makes no sense (something like: It rains cats and dogs, i.e. it rains a lot. - It rains cats and dogs. or Ifs ands would grow mushrooms in their mouths. - Ifs and ands were pots and pans. Literally in Russian it means: Ifs ands would be pots and pans. Funny, isn't it? But on the other hand, without such translations, we would not appreciate their terrific imagery and the wit of those who composed them.
