Proverbs and sayings (plus some slang) Very valuable material! - This is a useful program. Many have probably heard that English is a language of expressions. There are many synonyms and colorful words in Russian, but in terms of richness and diversity of expressions, one of the first places among all languages of the world undoubtedly belongs to English.
Proverbs, sayings and expressions are very figurative, and their literal translation often makes no sense (something like: It rains cats and dogs, i.e. it rains a lot. - It rains cats and dogs. or Ifs ands would grow mushrooms in their mouths. - Ifs and ands were pots and pans. Literally in Russian it means: Ifs ands would be pots and pans. Funny, isn't it? But on the other hand, without such translations, we would not appreciate their terrific imagery and the wit of those who composed them.
The program contains both literal (literal translation) and the equivalent of all proverbs or expressions in Russian. There are no problems with pronunciation either, because all expressions, proverbs and sayings have sound accompaniment. You will really lose a lot if you miss this program. Without proverbs, sayings and expressions, you can't understand what true spoken English is, its history and roots. Sometimes you can hear in a single phrase the echo of something that happened centuries ago. The conquest of the seas by brave English sailors, cowboy romance and Victorian ideals are all reflected in proverbs, sayings and idioms.
