Description

Vextractor is a program for converting raster images into vector ones using several methods. It can convert maps, schemes, drawings, photos and various design pictures into vector formats.

The program has two main modes of operation: construction of axial (skeleton) lines and construction of external contours of objects. The transformation process is regulated by a flexible set of settings. There are preset optimal sets for each type of images. You can also create your own presets to best suit a particular type of image.

  • Support for the most common bitmap image formats: BMP, JPEG, GIF, TIFF/GeoTIFF, PNG, PCX, TGA, WBMP, PPM, PBM, PGM.
  • Vector output formats: AutoCAD DXF ArcInfo Shapefiles MapInfo MID/MIF Encapsulated Post Script (EPS) Scalable Vector Graphic (SVG) Windows Metafile (WMF/EMF) ASCII Simple text format XYZ ILDA Image Data Transfer Format

The following options are available for drawing recognition:

  • Recognition of various graphic elements of the image - circles, arcs and orthogonal lines.
  • You can set a regular grid and "gravitate" objects to grid nodes.

To work with cartographic information:

  • Coordinate georeferencing system with ability to save georeferencing coefficients in GeoTIFF files and world files of ESRI ArcInfo system.
  • The program has a possibility to specify elevation (z-coordinate) of contours to digitize terrain reliefs. Another possible use of this feature is to digitize function graphs.

Program features intended for artists and designers:

  • It is possible to build outlines of raster images made up of Bezier splines.

The program contains a built-in vector editor where you can correct vector objects built by vectorization algorithms or manually finish drawing the necessary objects.
