Look at your finger against the light and you will see that when your heart is contracting, your finger becomes darker and less translucent. This app notices these dimmings and records their number. You can be sure that it will be accurate.
Note: the accuracy of the measurement is highly dependent on good lighting, it is best to sit in front of a light source when you perform the test.
