Twitter halved the character limit

09 November 2017
Good news for all Twitter users. Representatives of the microblogging service decided to double the maximum number of characters per tweet. The limit on the number of characters in Twitter messages has finally been relaxed. Now users can add up to 280 characters in a single tweet instead of 140 characters. Testing of the innovation began back in September of this year and now it is available for everyone. True, there are some exceptions. The new, relaxed limit does not apply to users who write in Japanese, Korean and Chinese, because they will be able to fit much more information into 140 characters than in other languages. Aliza Rosen, Twitter's product manager, shared the relevant information in the company's official blog. It's expected that the innovation will help users communicate and express their thoughts even more freely. And this is not surprising, because 140 characters was not always enough to express something. So, many had to abbreviate the words, phrases and use other tricks. For others, it was enough of a reason to give up using Twitter altogether. In spite of the fact that, according to statistics, only 9% of tweets met the limit of 140 characters, the increase in the maximum length of messages was a very pleasant improvement of the service. What users will say about it - time will tell.
