CompactGUI

CompactGUI is the graphical component of compact.exe. It is used in the Windows operating system to reduce the amount of disk space occupied by programs, game applications, or "heavy" folders and files. Because it is so easy to use, even a novice user can figure it out, because everything can be done in a simple sequence: show the path to the folder, click "Compress Folder".

CompactGUI Features

For experienced users, the program provides a range of settings that regulate the compression mechanism.

Four modes are available to the user

• XPRESS4K - the fastest compression mode, but the weakest;
• XPRESS8K - the perfect balance between speed and compression volume;
• XPRESS16K - slower but allows you to gain a lot of space;
• LZX - the slowest mode, but still compresses everything to the minimum size.

The last, LZX-mode, the developers recommend using only when the user is confident in the capacity of the central processor, or when the compressed applications are outdated.

Additional options are also configurable

• ability to compress subfolders;
• Compress hidden files or files needed by the operating system;
• shutting down or rebooting the personal computer when the action is complete.

When the operation is complete, the interface will show the difference in the size of the folder before and after the compression.

For illustration, the developers showed the results of compression for Fortnite: the original 18.8 GB was reduced to 10.2 GB, i.e. almost 50% of the original volume.

Software compatibility

Due to the fact that CompactGUI is not a standalone program but a GUI for a standard application, it can only be used on a Windows 10 PC or notebook. The utility does not have the ability to switch to Russian, the interface is in English.
