GTK+ is a cross-platform library of interface elements. Along with Qt, it is one of the two most popular libraries for the X Window System today.
The appearance of graphical interfaces created with GTK+ can be configured by the user and/or the programmer. Not only the colors and fonts are configurable, but also how different elements are displayed. This is achieved through the use of "engines" for the display. By connecting a different engine, you can dramatically change the appearance of the programs. For example, some engines can use a pseudo-three-dimensional look, others can use a more "flat" look, etc.
