LiveKd is a program that allows you to run the Microsoft Kd and Windbg kernel debuggers, included in the Debugging Tools for Windows, on a live system in local mode. For an in-depth analysis of the system, you need to run all of the debugger commands that work with the crash memory copy files. Instructions on how to examine the system with the kernel debuggers are available in the debugging tools documentation for Windows.
The latest versions of the Windbg and Kd debuggers, when running on Windows XP and Server 2003, have largely similar feature sets to the LiveKD program, but the latter operates on all operating systems from NT 4 to Server 2003, including Windows x64 versions, and also provides more advanced features, such as a thread stack viewer with the !thread command; these circumstances distinguish it from the analogous dynamic kernel debugging tools provided by Windbg and Kd.
