nano A console text editor based on the curses library and licensed under the GNU GPL. It is a free clone of the Pico text editor included in the Pine e-mail client. nano was created to replicate the functionality and usability of the Pico interface, but without the deep integration into the email client of the Pine/Pico package. Instead of being a "mouse-oriented" editor, nano, like Pico, is controlled by keyboard shortcuts. For example, Ctrl-O saves the current document; Ctrl-W lets you access the search menu. Nano displays a menu of available keyboard shortcuts at the bottom of the screen, arranging them in 2 rows. To get the full list of available keyboard shortcuts, press Ctrl-G. Unlike Pico, nano uses combinations with Meta-keys. For example, Meta-S enables/disables smooth scrolling. Almost all features that can be set using command line parameters can be dynamically changed in the program.
