The Palette - Melody Composing Tool

The Palette is a tool for creating melodies. The program is based on composition theory and harmony theory. A strong theoretical foundation makes creating a melody much easier.

The program includes 17 lessons. Each lesson includes one or two demo scripts, for a total of 25 scripts. These lessons consistently reveal the entire process of creating a melody. The program presents the melody as a structure, which is similar to the structure of ordinary speech. It has words (motifs), phrases, sentences, commas (caesures), question marks, and periods (cadences). This division of the melody into parts allows a simple and effective algorithm for composing.

The program implements 24 techniques of motif development. These techniques are similar to effects in the graphic editor. Each subsequent part of the melody is created on the basis of one of the previous parts, by applying to it the method of development. Here are some of the techniques: variation, inversion, repetition, new rhythm, sequence, etc. The program knows the basic triads and seventh chords of the harmony, as well as their conversions. Chords in the program are represented in four voices: soprano, alto, tenor, and bass. The user can select not only the type of chord, but also its location. Any chord has a large number of arrangements. The arrangements are built from the different notes of the chord, and the notes of the chord are taken in a row (close arrangement), or through one another (wide arrangement of the chord). The program records the melody in its own file format, and also allows exporting the melody in midi (*.mid) format. The exported midi file consists of 3 tracks: melody, chords, bass. You can import this file into any sequencer or arranger to get a complete composition. In the unregistered version, the ability to export a melody to a midi (*.mid) file is not available. To unlock this feature, you need to register the program.
