Wings 3D is a free open-source 3D modeling program. Wings 3D can be used to create and texture models with low to medium polygon count.
The program does not support animation and has only an OpenGL renderer, although models can be exported to external rendering programs such as POV-Ray and YafRay. Wings is often used in combination with other programs that are more advanced in terms of rendering system and animation.
Wings 3D uses contextual menus, as opposed to a rich graphical interface. Switching the different editing methods (vertices, edges, faces and objects) is done with the mouse and keyboard. Because Wings is designed to use the context menu, each of the methods has its own set of commands for editing the model.
Many of these commands have both simple and complex settings relating to how the tool will affect the model being edited. The program can also apply textures and materials to the model and has a built-in autogenerator of texture coordinates.
