Xpdf is a free PDF viewer for the X Window System and Motif.
Xpdf can be run on many Unix-like systems. Xpdf can decode LZW and read encrypted PDF files. The official version has restrictions for DRM for PDF files which can prevent copying, printing, or converting PDF files. However, there are third-party patches to get around these limitations.
Xpdf includes several programs that do not require the X Window System, including programs that allow you to extract images from PDF files or convert PDF to PostScript or text.
Xpdf is used as a backend in KPDF and GPDF, as well as BePDF on BeOS, !PDF on RISCOS, and PalmPDF. xpdf on AmigaOS requires Cygnix (a limited version of X11).
