External USB devices and SD disks do not allow Windows 10 to install

26 April 2019

Microsoft's update won't be out until May, and those involved in the testing program are already talking about bugs that are interfering with the OS.

Now the build is being tested before release. It will not be available to all users until May of this year.

Windows 10 May 2019 Update (version 1903), as reported by participants in the testing program, at this stage has interesting nuances and problems.

The company has officially confirmed the presence of one feature. The fact is that the update will not install on computers and laptops to which USB devices and SD cards are connected. The reason for the error is an incorrect drive reassignment. So, for example, a flash drive with one designation can be assigned to any other unoccupied drive. It is because of this Microsoft has so far blocked the update if such devices are available.

This feature affects all systems with Windows 10 April 2018 Update (version 1803) as well as with October 2018 Update (version 1809).

The user will receive the following error message:

Внешние USB-устройства и SD-диски не дают Windows 10 установиться

To solve the problem, the developers suggest disconnecting all USB drives and SD cards during the installation of the update. However, it is possible that in May, when the official release of Windows 10 May 2019, this bug will be fixed.
