This INSTEAD (Simple Text Adventure) interpreter allows you to play games that are a mix of visual novel, textual quest, and classic 90's quests. INSTEAD game features: * very simple source text stories. (LUA is used as basis); * possibility to use graphical or textual (readline) interface for game; * music and graphics are supported in graphical interface; * theme support for graphical interpreter -- particular game can change interface appearance; * portability (originally written for Linux, it depends on SDL and lua).

There are many quests at the moment. Some of them are already included in the INSTEAD Pack: 1. "Return of the Quantum Cat." A story about a woodsman hacker downshifter, his war against evil, and quantum paradoxes. The game contains about 70 scenes, graphics, oldschool tracks and is included in the distribution instead. 2. "One Old Story. A story about a paranoid programmer and his war against evil. The game is available on the project website. 4. "Quarantine". A nonlinear quest about the struggle of the crew of a polar station with evil. 5. "Elevator". An ordinary elevator operator, Ivan, struggles with evil. The games contain author's drawings and music. The INSTEAD Pack includes the INSTEAD Launcher, a tool for automatically installing games from the net. In the repository is already more than 20 games! In addition, you can always download all the games on the project website.
