NetBeans is a free integrated application development environment (IDE) using Java, JavaFX, Python, PHP, JavaScript, C++, Ada, and several other programming languages.
To develop programs in the NetBeans environment and for the successful installation and operation of the NetBeans environment itself, you must have a Sun JDK or J2EE SDK of a suitable version installed in advance. By default, the NetBeans development environment supports development for the J2SE and J2EE platforms. As of version 6.0, Netbeans supports development for the J2ME, C++ (g++ only), and PHP mobile platforms, with no additional components installed.
The NetBeans IDE project is maintained and sponsored by Oracle, but NetBeans is developed by the NetBeans Community and NetBeans Org.
The latest NetBeans IDE is very similar in quality and features to the best commercial integrated development environments for Java, such as IntelliJ IDEA, with support for refactoring, profiling, color-coding, autocomplete input on the fly, multiple predefined code templates, and more.
