Microsoft will stop releasing updates to the game Minecraft for Windows Phone

20 January 2017
Everyone has probably heard of Minecraft more than once. It remains one of the most popular games in the world, largely due to the support not only PC, but also mobile devices and even virtual reality glasses. However, the users of gadgets on Microsoft's own mobile operating system soon won't be able to enjoy their favorite game. The thing is that the popularity of the game on gadgets running Windows Phone 8.1 and Windows 10 Mobile was quite low, which made further support of the game and development of updates simply unprofitable. Thus, you will still be able to buy the game at the official app store, at least for a while, but you can forget about the updates, as well as about any support. Recall that this is not the first time we refused to support our own products on their own mobile operating system. The same fate befell Skype, support for which on Windows Phone 8 and 8.1 ended back in October 2016, despite the fact that these versions of the mobile OS at the time were used by about 90% of all owners of gadgets from Microsoft. It seems that fans of playing Minecraft: Pocket Edition will either have to look at mobile devices running another operating system, or settle for the desktop version of the game.
