Ubuntu is available for download from the Windows Store

12 July 2017
Now everyone can download the distribution on their Windows 10 computer. It runs inside a so-called sandbox, a virtual environment, and runs in parallel with the main operating system. Users will be able to install and run applications in Ubuntu, as well as set up file sharing for the two systems. In order to install Ubuntu, the user should open the standard Control Panel (not the new version that appeared in Windows 10), go to "Programs and components", click on "Turn Windows components on or off" and select "Windows subsystem for Linux" (requires a computer reboot)
