Astro mail service ceases to exist and merges with Slack

26 September 2018
Good news for all users of the corporate messenger Slack. Soon, the program will get a very curious built-in email client. The fact is that on September 24 this year, Slack Technologies announced the purchase of the startup Astro. Slack representatives believe that e-mail is one of the most important tools for business communication these days. Thanks to the latest acquisition, which was the largest in the history of the company, it is planned to integrate the corresponding mail service with the popular corporate messenger. Recall that the Astro service uses artificial intelligence to analyze user behavior. The information obtained allows it to sort emails and reminders, as well as archive repetitive messages. Similar features were already available to Slack users, thanks to the Astrobot plugin, released by Astro in 2017. Under the terms of the deal, the cost of which remained unspecified, Astro apps for macOS, iOS, Android, Amazon Alexa and Slack will cease to exist as of October 10 this year. Also, all of the startup's employees will move to Slack Technologies.
