Users warned of possible Internet outages starting October 11

07 September 2018
Important information for those who work on the Internet or do not see their lives without it. On October 11 of this year, the network will be disrupted, according to information shared by ICANN, a nonprofit corporation for the management of domain names and IP addresses. On the specified date - October 11, 2018, there will be a change of cryptographic keys, which protect the system of domain names on the Internet (DNS). Despite the fact that the experts are confident that the impact of the cryptographic keys will be minimal for users, they still warn of possible problems with access to some sites on 11 October and after that date. Interestingly, the replacement of keys KSK 2010 to KSK 2017, as you can easily guess, was supposed to happen last year. However, it was decided to postpone it until 2018 because earlier it could have caused serious problems with Internet connectivity for many users around the world. This year, according to representatives of Group-IB, an international company specializing in the prevention and investigation of cybercrime, the change of DNS security keys will not lead to large-scale failures.
