Jets'n'Guns is an addictive computer game in the horizontal scrolling shooter genre. As in many games of this genre (Raptor: Call of the Shadows, Tyrian), the gameplay consists of moving around a constantly shifting screen, destroying appearing enemies, buying and upgrading weapons and equipment. However, while in such games the player has a few "lives" but no save option, in Jets'n'Guns the player can save before the stage begins, but after destruction he starts the stage again (either from a control point on the level, if there is one and if the player has reached it).
According to the developers, horizontal scrolling was chosen over the more classic vertical scrolling in order to add more humor to the game: for example, with a vertical orientation, the player would not be able to see a knife ship, a revolver ship, or a fish-like submarine. As for humor, the game has enough of it: each weapon is accompanied by an advertising poster, a slogan ("Just like you saw on TV!"), sometimes you get some useless souvenir for the game like a teddy bear or a video game disc when buying a weapon.
The unconventional layout of the game space creates special links between ground and air objects: for example, a downed ship can crash into a structure on the ground and destroy it; but the player can also shoot a particularly explosive ground object, which can destroy a flying ship nearby and sometimes even the player's ship. The player can buy weapons before starting a level. As the game progresses, the ship is able to carry more and more weapons. The player's ship can be fitted with certain equipment, and the basic systems can be improved: cooling system, armor, energy shield, engine and wings.
