Surface tension 3D virtual laboratory work on physics (section: Mechanics).
INTENTION: Simulation of the laboratory work on general physics.
PURPOSE OF THE EXPERIENCE: Measurement of surface tension by the "burst" method.
DESCRIPTION: To determine the surface tension of a liquid, a sharp-edged ring is dipped horizontally into the liquid and slowly pulled upward while measuring the force with which to pull the ring from the liquid. The thin layer of liquid that forms on the ring "breaks" when the force becomes greater than a certain value. From this force and the length of the edge, the surface tension can be calculated.
